Last week, we posted a guide to using the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) over the Internet to diagnose problems with a Mac’s hardware. Using the AHT over the Internet is a great option, ensuring you can test your Mac anywhere you have an Internet connection. However, not all Macs are able to boot using the Internet as a connection medium.

Luckily, the AHT was available long before the “i” was ever added to a Mac’s name. So, if your Mac is unable to boot from remote Apple servers over the Internet, you can still use the version of the Apple Hardware Test that was included with your Mac to find out if anything is wrong with its hardware. The most difficult part may be locating the AHT CD, DVD, or flash drive.
