I spend a lot of time working in the Finder, managing files and organizing information. That’s why I store the icons of a few apps that I routinely use in the Finder’s toolbar. Without leaving the Finder window I’m working in, I can quickly launch an app I need.

I can even drag a file from the Finder window onto an app’s icon in the Finder toolbar to open the file with the selected app. It makes my workflow easier, and cuts down on moving the mouse around the screen.

While having an app, or folder, or file in the Finder toolbar can be helpful, it’s also important to be frugal about what you add to the toolbar. Too many items will quickly seem cumbersome, requiring large Finder windows just to be able see and access all the items you added.
