OS X Yosemite is still in beta form at the time of this writing, but Apple’s goal is to have it running on as many Mac models as possible. To achieve this goal, one of the prerequisites during development was to ensure that if a Mac can run OS X Mavericks, then it will be able to run Yosemite.

That looks like it will be an easy goal to achieve since Yosemite, while offering some nice new features, doesn’t really have anything that requires new hardware capabilities.
